Since being in quarantine, I have been through many phases of motivation and creativity, which often weren't permanent as I spent another fifty percent of the time being in a slump. Although this has been an awful time, the silver lining is that I have been able to really sit and think about a lot, and I've realised that this is a great opportunity for me to be more creative than ever! As a 19 year old student, I tend to spend my time distracting myself with clubbing, assignments and boy problems, so I have never before been able to think in this depth, completely distraction-free. I have realised a lot about myself and my future goals, which explains why I have made this blog. This feels a little strange as I used to do this as a little 14 year old with awful dress sense, completely uninformed on the state of the world, but now I've done my GCSEs, A-Levels and a year of uni, I'd like to think I have changed just a bit.
I have been sitting on the fence in terms of future career options for years, as I am so passionate about history and politics but also about fashion and writing. I came to the conclusion (which should have been obvious to me before wasting a year studying a subject at uni that had no relevance to my future) that I'd like to work towards being a journalist, or more specifically an editor and I'd like to look more into a career in social media marketing too. I was quite distressed that I settled on this career choice in the middle of a global pandemic where I couldn't find any work experience, I was going to bed night after night lying awake thinking about how my whole future was going to be a failure because I'm so far behind on the journey into a media-oriented career (which isn't the case in the slightest). But, that's when the idea of creating a blog came into play; an online portfolio of articles I've written about anything and everything I'm interested in, primarily politics and fashion. This is a great way not only for me to pass time during lockdown but also to feel as though I'm working towards something.
My first blog post is going to be about CLOTHES, the thing I've been spending all of my money on unnecessarily since the only time I can wear clothes that aren't pyjamas is out walking the dog, and I'm certain my dog doesn't appreciate my cute outfits the way my friends would. Nonetheless, this does not stop me from getting dressed up as it makes me really happy, and that's all I can focus on during this pandemic. I have put together three cute spring/summer outfits all centred around my favourite colour, blue! These outfits perfectly sum up my three main styles, edgy vibes, preppy vibes and girly vibes. The only one missing is my usual basic white girl clubbing look, however, I am holding out hope that I'll be able to dress that way again soon enough.
All of these outfits have some thrifted items from Depop, which is a great reminder to avoid fast fashion where possible! A lot of the items from places like Topshop and Missguided have similar items that can be found on Depop, eBay and Asos Marketplace, which is often much cheaper and it's better for the environment. SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES! Also, for each of these looks, I'm going to share a song that reminds me of the vibes the outfit gives off. Really random, I know, but this blog is meant to be filled with things I love and music is definitely one of those things! All items will be linked at the bottom.
